Maternity Foundation
Clinical Team Internship
What We Offer
During your internship, you will gain valuable insights into how a global non-profit operates, and you’ll be part of an international team passionate about improving maternal and newborn health. We value the unique perspectives and creativity our interns bring and are committed to providing a meaningful and engaging learning experience.
As part of the Clinical Team, you will work alongside an international group of midwives, and contribute to improving the quality, accessibility and relevance of the content in the Safe Delivery App (SDA). With guidance and support from the team, you will be leading your own tasks and gain hands-on experience in quality improvement, digital learning platforms, and the alignment of international midwifery competencies.
We welcome your knowledge, skills, and perspectives and invite you to contribute to our ongoing work to strengthen competencies for midwives and improve maternal and newborn health globally.
Your Role
Responsibilities during your internship:
Conduct a mapping exercise to assess the alignment between the ICM Essential Competencies for Midwifery Practice and the content of the Safe Delivery App.
Work on our new IT platform - the content management system (CMS) - to structure and upload our updated MyLearning content.
Proofread and review the global Portuguese version of the Safe Delivery App. Native-level (Portuguese proficiency is required for this task).
Contribute to other relevant tasks and activities within the Clinical Team, depending on your interests and the team’s needs.
Practicalities
The internship is for the Spring term 2027 for a minimum of three months (starting in February). It can be pursued part-time (approx. 10–15 hours per week) with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules.
The role can be based in Copenhagen (HQ) or remote (preferably in-person in Copenhagen), with standard working hours from 9:00 to 17:00 CET and flexibility upon agreement. You will have regular check-ins with your supervisor to support your learning and professional development.
For an internship at Maternity Foundation, you are required to be enrolled in an educational programme as a Bachelor or Master student whose internship is integrated into an academic programme. As this is an unpaid position, applicants should receive financial support from a third party (e.g., SU/CSN/Erasmus Stipendium or another student funding source). Internships can be part-time or full-time for a minimum of 3 months.

About Maternity Foundation
We are a team of roughly 40 colleagues working across our three global hubs in Ethiopia, Denmark, and India. We come from various backgrounds – global health, midwifery, anthropology, IT, and business – and take pride in an entrepreneurial spirit and a can-do attitude. Together, we are an ambitious and purpose-driven team working in a welcoming and informal atmosphere.
What unites us is a goal to ensure safer births for women and newborns – everywhere. Every other minute, a woman dies during pregnancy or birth, and every fourteenth second, a newborn suffers the same fate. Most deaths happen in remote and fragile settings, but the majority can be prevented with access to quality care. Through our Safe Delivery Programme, we support midwives and other healthcare professionals in providing quality care to mothers and newborns. Central to the programme is our free, offline-capable and locally adapted Safe Delivery App. To date, we have reached more than 500,000 midwives and other healthcare professionals across 70+ low- and middle-income countries.
