Senior Firmware Engineer

On behalf of our client, Anticimex Innovation Center, Asgaard Recruitment is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to strengthen the firmware engineering team and contribute to the development, improvement, and industrialization of smart, connected products operating in demanding real-world environments.

The role

As Senior Firmware Engineer, you will take a central role in developing and improving the firmware that brings connected devices to life, working closely with electronics, mechanics, and software/cloud teams to ensure that hardware and firmware perform reliably together.

The role combines hands-on firmware development with technical leadership. You will help set the professional standard for firmware design, support task coordination within the team, and contribute to stronger engineering practices across design reviews, release discipline, root-cause analysis, testing, documentation, and change management.

A key part of the role will be to help strengthen in-house firmware capabilities. Today, parts of the firmware development are handled by external partners, and Anticimex Innovation Center is now building stronger internal ownership of selected design, verification, and development activities.

You will work with embedded firmware for battery-powered IoT devices, low-power wireless connectivity, over-the-air updates, and production test support. The position is primarily based in Bagsværd. Some occasional travel to Helsinge expected to stay close to production, products, and technical problem-solving. Also, regular presence at the HQ of our strategic partner Sigma Connectivity in Lund, Sweden to be expected.

Your key responsibilities

You will:

• Develop and improve firmware for low-power, wireless IoT devices, from bring-up through production release

• Lead the structured transition of selected firmware development and verification activities from external partners to internal ownership, including tooling, documentation, and knowledge transfer

• Own firmware architecture in selected projects, including driver development, wireless connectivity stacks, and over-the-air (OTA) update mechanisms

• Contribute to verification and validation activities, including hardware/firmware bring-up, test planning, troubleshooting, certification readiness, and release processes

• Strengthen Stage-Gate execution, design review practices, documentation quality, engineering change processes, and controlled releases

• Collaborate closely with firmware architect, electronics, mechanics, software/cloud, production colleagues, internal stakeholders, and external suppliers

You will become a key technical voice in the firmware discipline, helping raise the engineering standard and ensuring that products are designed not only to work, but to work reliably at scale.

Who you are

You are an experienced firmware engineer with deep technical expertise and a strong interest in building connected products for the real world. You enjoy hands-on embedded development, structured problem-solving, and turning technical findings into robust, production-ready solutions.

You likely bring:

• 7–10+ years of experience in embedded firmware development

• Strong experience with embedded C/C++ and real-time operating systems (e.g. FreeRTOS, Zephyr) or bare-metal development

• Experience with battery-powered IoT devices and low-power wireless connectivity (e.g. BLE, LoRaWAN, or cellular IoT)

• Experience with firmware architecture, driver development, and over-the-air (OTA) update mechanisms

• Experience with version control, automated testing, and CI/CD for embedded systems

• Experience working in structured product development models such as Stage-Gate

• Knowledge of security practices for connected devices (Ideally RED+CRA)

• Professional proficiency in English

It is an advantage if you have experience with insourcing or transitioning development work from external partners, hardware bring-up and debugging (JTAG/SWD), cellular or LoRaWAN certification processes, PDM/PLM systems, ISO 9001, FMEA, or cloud/IoT platform integration.
